Happy Thursday!
Before the month of June comes to an end (how, just how is it almost July!!) I wanted to share with you guys the awesome treat I got in the mail from Artsnacks. They are a subscription box in which they curate art supplies, so you can discover new favorites monthly that you never thought you’d try.
I was beyond excited when I got the June one in the mail!
Inside the box (I also shared the unboxing on my Instagram stories), I first found a menu (I copied everything it says a few lines below, so you guys can read the specifications of every single thing I got), some candy (yum yum), a sticker of their cute logo, a pencil sharpener in a box, and a little wrap that contained more surprise goodies.
There’s a variety of colors that you can get, but in all cases the sticker matches the candy, the marker (oops spoiler alert), and the wrap paper. The color you get is random/surprise. I got lime green, which was a bit challenging for me since it’s a color I rarely use in my illustrations.
But I love me a challenge!
My Artsnacks june box reveal:
Here’s where you get to read the menu. My side comments are in italics:
ArtSnacks + KUM Automatic Long Point Sharpener
Sharpen your pencils in style with the Automatic Long Point Sharpener by KUM.
We collaborated with KUM to produce this limited-edition version in ArtSnacks teal, and it’ll never be available anywhere else! There are two steps to using this tool: 1) sharpen your pencil with the first blade to shape the wood 2) sharpen it with the second blade to shape the lead. It features two spare blades and an automatic stop function to prevent breakage, so don’t worry about over sharpening. I’m not gonna lie, it’s a weird process, but I believe it’s the best pencil sharpener I’ve ever had. I still have to try it with my Prismacolor pencils to see how it works.
Sakura SumoGrip Retractable Eraser
Every artist needs a sturdy, reliable eraser. This month, we’re introducing the SumoGrip Retractable Eraser! Featuring innovative micro-porous foam technology, this eraser is able to pick up even the tiniest graphite particles. Minimal pressure is needed to erase dark marks, making it easy on your hands and the paper. The refillable holder has a convenient retractable design and protects the eraser when not in use. This eraser is awesome and I’m using it every day now. It erases super easily and fast too!
Caran d’Ache Edelweiss Pencil
Don’t be fooled by this pencil’s simple design. The Caran d’Ache Edelweiss Pencil is anything but basic with its high-quality cedar casing and smooth core. It has a precise, long-lasting point and is easily erasable, so try it out with your new sharpener and eraser! I got mine in F, which it’s a super hard lead. I like it, though.
ShinHan Art Touch Twin Brush Marker
Experience the touch of real brush strokes with a marker! The Touch Twin Brush Marker features a flexible fiber brush nib on one end, and a medium-wide chisel nib on the other. Express a wide range of techniques with this alcohol-based marker. The controlled ink flow and quick drying time lets you create even the most detailed artwork. An added bonus to this marker: the ink is refillable and nibs are replaceable. I’ve only tried this one color, and I gotta say, I haven’t tried it in marker paper. But, so far I think it’s a great Copic dupe/alternative.
ZIG Millennium Pen, 0.5mm
Your artwork will last a millennium with this fine point pen. The ZIG Millennium Pen is permanent and lightfast, so it will not fade over time. After drying, the water-based pigment ink is smudge, fade, and waterproof, which makes it perfect for all types of work. To get the best performance from this pen, be sure to store it horizontally. Yup, it does the job just as described. It’s always great to ink with a waterproof pen when you are coloring your illustrations with watercolors.
Now for the #artsnackschallenge
Another perk of this box is that if you want to, you can gain exposure on social media with it. How, you may ask? You can create a piece of artwork with all the art supplies you got in your box, take a cute picture, and post it on social media with the hashtag #artsnackschallenge Bonus points if you tag ArtSnacks in it and every art supply brand in it as well.
That way you can get discovered by other people, and if the ArtSnacks brand picks your artwork, you can even get a shoutout on their social media outlets.
Just make sure your account is set to public and post away!
By exploring that hashtag you can also discover new talented artists to follow, which is always inspiring.
This is what I created for my #artsnackschallenge
